When a hardliner reads the hadith, all he sees is black and white issues. When an uncompassionate person reads through the prophet's biography, all she finds is rules and strictness. Too many people look at the sunnah through the lens of their own flaws and insecurities, but if God’s Messenger (pbuh) was among us today, we would probably feel his rifq (gentleness) more than anything else.
